Proclamation

Whereas: The Council of the City of New York is pleased and proud to join the friends and family of Maestro David Close and the members of The Queens Oratorio Society as they gather this day to celebrate the thirty-fifth year of his leadership involvement with this unique musical organization; and

Whereas: We are a city made great by individuals and organizations dedicated to enhancing the community of New York City and in doing so have positively impacted upon the common good rendering great joy, fulfillment and enhancement to individuals as well as society; and

Whereas: David Close has combined a deep love for music and a most passionate role in bringing the joys of music to our community in a multiplicity of leadership roles in The Oratorio Society of Queens that include accompanist, Artistic Director and Conductor and through these great talents and insights has transformed the Society into a communal effort that readily emerges as a yardstick by which all such undertakings will be measured; and

Whereas: David Close has been recognized by music lovers and those organization who devote their efforts to making music more accessible to all in that he has been called upon to serve in such diverse posts as Executive and Artistic Director of Music Reginae Productions and serves as Founder, Artistic Director and Conductor of The Orchestral Arts Ensemble of Queens; and

Whereas: The love of music is not enclosed by boundaries, Maestro Close has given of himself fully in conducting performances for the Singers' Theatre of Westchester, the Manhattan Opera Company, the New York Lyric Opera and is Music Director of Our Lady Queens of Martyrs Church and organist in Temple Emanu-El in Lynbrook; now, therefore Let It Be Known: That the Council of the City of New York most gratefully honors


MAESTRO DAVID CLOSE

For his sterling contribution to the City of New York and joins with the members and friends of The Queens Oratorio Society in celebrating the goodwill he has generated these many years.
